Max Irey, a junior at Catalina Foothills High, took third in the Division 2 boys championship race at the Arizona Interscholastic Association state final at Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix. Irey covered the 5-kilometer layout in 16:17.0, improving from 29th place last season to help Catalina Foothills place third overall with 92 points.
